Save your natural tooth and restore its original beauty with our custom-crafted porcelain crowns. Unlike old metal-fused crowns that leave dark lines at the gumline, our all-ceramic solutions mimic the translucency of natural enamel—providing a durable, seamless repair that blends perfectly with your smile.
A dental crown is a custom-fitted “cap” that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. It restores the tooth’s original shape, size, strength, and appearance. At South Coast Dental, we specialize in high-quality all-porcelain crowns that mimic the translucency of natural enamel.
Unlike older crowns that often leave a dark metal line at the gumline, our modern ceramic options are 100% metal-free. They are bonded securely to your tooth, providing a durable, long-lasting solution that looks completely natural and functions just like your real teeth.
Porcelain crowns are the ideal solution for protecting damaged teeth or enhancing your smile.

A filling is best for small cavities where most of the tooth structure is still healthy. A porcelain crown is necessary when a tooth is cracked, broken, or has a cavity too large for a filling to support. Think of a crown as a protective helmet that covers the tooth to restore its shape and prevent it from breaking further.
Not at South Coast Dental. We use high-quality, metal-free ceramics that mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural enamel. Unlike older crowns that look flat or opaque, our porcelain crowns are custom-shaded to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.
No. The dark line often seen with older crowns is caused by the metal base showing through. Because we use all-ceramic or zirconia materials, there is no metal underneath. Your crown will look natural and bright, right down to the gumline.
Getting a custom crown typically takes two visits. At the first visit, we prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown to protect it. About 2–3 weeks later, once your custom porcelain crown has been hand-crafted by the lab, you return to have it permanently bonded.
We prioritize your comfort. We use local anaesthesia to completely numb the tooth and surrounding area before we begin preparation. You should feel no pain during the procedure. We also offer sedation dentistry options if you are feeling anxious.
Porcelain crowns are incredibly durable. With proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups, they typically last 10 to 15 years, and often much longer. They are designed to withstand normal biting and chewing forces just like a natural tooth.
Not necessarily. While most teeth that have had root canals do need a crown to protect them, not every tooth that needs a crown requires a root canal. If the nerve of your tooth is healthy, we simply reshape the outer surface to fit the crown.
